Stephen DonwerthStephen Donwerth is a Berkeley based artist and teacher. After earning a BFA degree from the University of Texas in Austin he spent two years in Ethiopia. "Although I have painted and made prints for most of my life, my main activity and art for the last few years has been digital photography. I take a painterly approach that is rarely literal. One of my strong interests is the property of transparency. The light that passes through solids and liquids has a special quality in that it questions what might be beyond the immediately visible plane.

I often choose to work with geometric and architectural forms, varied textures and clear, bright colors.

I find that the process of image making is a continual source of surprise and pleasure."
